Changes in blood vasotocin activity during oviposition in the hen.

چکیده
The vasotocin level in the blood of hens during oviposition was determined on the isolated bladder of the frog, Rana esculenta. It was found that 10 min before oviposition, the vasotocin level in blood sudden¬ ly increased. During oviposition, it was forty-six times higher (P<0-01) than that in hens with no egg in the uterus. After oviposition, the activity of vasotocin in the blood rapidly decreased.

Mesotocin increases the sensitivity of the hen oviduct uterus to arginine vasotocin.
The present study was performed to elucidate whether mesotocin (MT), one of avian neurohypophysial hormones, relates to the action of arginine vasotocin (AVT) on oviposition of hens. The ratio of AVT-induced oviposition was increased when 1 microg/hen of MT was injected together with AVT. An intravenous injection of 1 microg/hen of MT caused an increase in the binding affinity of the uterine AV...
متن کاملArginine vasotocin receptor in the vagina of the oviduct of the hen.
The presence of receptor for arginine vasotocin (AVT) in the vagina of the oviduct of the hen was demonstrated by the use of radioligand binding assays on membrane fractions of the tissue. The binding to [125I]AVT was highly competitive with unlabeled AVT. Scatchard analysis revealed that the binding sites are of a single class. The equilibrium dissociation constant (Kd) was 0.48+/-0.05 nM (x+/...
متن کاملArginine vasotocin induces bearing down for oviposition in the hen.
An intravenous injection of arginine vasotocin (AVT) at 16 h before the expected oviposition of the initial egg of an egg-laying sequence caused bearing down for oviposition. Oviposition was increased up to 100% by increasing the dose of AVT up to 1 microg, but it decreased when the dose was 10 and 20 microg. Bearing down was observed even when the oviposition was not induced by the injection o...
متن کاملEffect of vasotocin and oxytocin on intrauterine pressure in the hen.
In the hen, injection of either vasotocin or oxytocin caused expulsion of the egg 1 to 20 hr prematurely (Rzasa & Ewy, 1970). The effect of these hormones on pressure within the uterus (shell gland) is reported. Fifteen New Hampshire, laying hens (no egg in utero) were used. Hens were anaesthetized with sodium phenobarbitone (160 mg/kg) injected i.m. Intrauterine pressure was recorded on a kymo...
متن کاملThe immunomodulatory effects of shark cartilage on the mouse and human immune system
Background: Sharks get cancer rarely. A major difference between these animals and other species is that sharks have a great amount of cartilaginous tissue. Immunomodulatory effects of the cartilage of some species (cow) have been proved. Because the immune system has a major role in the defense of the body against cancer, we studied the effects of shark cartilage on the mouse and human immune...
